Tire pressure PSI
You guys are the experts, I'm just the sponge. I've googled my question a few times but I keep getting inconsistent answers from what I am finding.
I drive a 2007 IS250 AWD and it has Dunlop tires on it size : 225/45 R17 91V BSW
My tire pressure light just turned on this morning after having sat for 2 days. So I found a tire pressure gauge at my work and they all read about 30 and one was reading at like 29 but THEN I read my tire and it says PSI 51. Someone told me that sounded too high etc.
So I had them fill them up to about 35 then we talked a little bit more about how they are low performance tires and they have a wider support wall etc.... so he filled them up to 40. Once he did that I noticed a night and day different in my turning now that I'm done with the context... here's the actual questions..
Do they really need to be filled up at 51 like the tire recommends? Would they be okay at 40? Will this affect my MPG? I popped my tire and had it patched not to ago and I don't understand why DIscount Tire left it at such a low PSI? Same goes for the dealership?
Thanks for your input.

The placard on the driver's door bellow the door striker will give you the manufacturers recommended tire pressures. 51 PSI sounds like the tires maximum tire pressure rating. The correct pressure for your tire size is Front: 35PSI and Rear: 38Psi. Running a higher pressure will cause excessive center tread wear.

Wow! Thank you so much! It says on the placard 35/37. I am learning a lot about this car still and I actually want to take care of this one! haha

Not to thread jack but on the topic of tire pressure...My analog gauge read 26 psi, digital gauge read 34 ps and digital gauge at gas station read 30 psi. I need an accurate gauge lol
