Clarification on TSIB for Cold Start Rattle
Ok guys, there is just too much to go through. I've spent half of the day reading threads that say 5 different things. So can anyone give me some clarification on TSIB EG019-07? It covers 06-07 IS350s on the cam rattle issue, but I have an 06 IS250 and I can't find any verification that this engine is affected. Pretty sure that's what I'm hearing at startup, rarely at first and now almost every time I start it (I don't drive that car but maybe once a month). I initially thought is was a check valve on the hydraulic chain tensioner bleeding off pressure and slacking the chain. That's what it sounds like to me, the chain slapping the cover for a second until pressure hits the check valve and re-tensions the chain. I listened to a few videos on YouTube though, and they all refer to this TSIB, and it's the same noise. I work on my own cars so I just want to be certain of what I'm doing before I completely tear the top end down.

I plan on taking my car in this week to get this checked out. Hopefully they will handle it since I believe it could be a safety concern if its not fixed. If not ill have to take up a case with Lexus Corporate.

Yeah it sounds like thats whats wrong with your car. I also thought it was the timing chain and ur on the right track as its actually the hydraulic pressure bleeding from the vvt assembly causing the slack in it. I believe by changing the seal on it actually fixes it but i cant confirm as i have a 350 and the dealer changed the whole assembly free of charge. Unfortunately for u it doesnt cover 250's
