what did you ever find out about this question I'm looking at purchasing an IS 250 2007 model with 129,000 Mi and it does have a slight grind going into third.

You better budget for repair. They don't get better on their own. Sometimes a fluid change can help, but I doubt it will fix it. Better practice rev matching.
