'06 Blown Shocks - what to buy
I recently purchased a 2006 IS250. I knew it needed suspension work when I bought it and a shop has confirmed the shocks are done on all four corners. They want over $1100 for OE shocks and mounts. Anyone used OE floating around not being used? Or even a set of coilovers?
How hard is the install?
Please help!

Thanks all, but my IS has over 200k miles I don't know if dropping $1500 into the suspension is on the top of my list. Won't coils just magnify other issues too?

Coilovers are highly overrated. Unless you track your car, then 99% of the time people buy them and set them once, then never touch them again. Their only real purpose is to change ride height without affecting spring rates. It's cheaper to just pick a spring set that has the drop you want(assuming you want a drop at all), and get some decent replacement struts/shocks.
For a DD car, the only real reason to run coilovers that I would bother with, is if you get bad winter conditions and want to raise the car up in winter and lower it back down in summer.

Yes, coilovers are definitely an option and if you can score a decent set, you can actually set them up to have the dampening and ride height similar to, if not exactly the same as stock configuration. Coilovers will run you about the same or less than you have been quoted for OEM parts, but includes the added benefit of adjusting if you ever decide to.
My stock struts/shocks began to leak, and I went with Megan EZ coilovers. Out of the box, the set ride height essentially "slammed" the car to the ground, but the default dampening made the ride pretty much very similar to stock comfort. Eventually, though, I turned dampening all the way up to the stiffest setting and raised the car slightly to avoid scrapping and rubbing amongst other small adjustments haha

Never heard of Monroe's being good. I had some Tokico Blues and they were nice with lowering springs. I am surprised there isn't anything like Bilstein short of F-Sports or Kyb AGX Shocks. The AGX were adjustable on the car and weren't that expensive. I would imagine it would be difficult to get ride height right on coilovers.
