No, I just kept clearing the codes and they would come back on. I talked to my brother in law who is a mechanic and a neighbor who is a toyota mechanic and they both said Im going to need to change the tranny out.

I am not sure of the similarities between the 07 IS350 and 07 RX350 transmissions. With that said, i also had to do a transmission in my RX350 at about 110k, it doesn't appear to be common but it definitely happens. I had mine rebuilt and it cost me way more. You did the right thing, nice work!

How much do you think you saved? Anyone know the average cost to put a tranny in the is350? Not dealer but local mechanic shop that deals with tranny installations.. I have 90k on my 350 and so far so good I hope I won't have to deal with this in the future.

No, I meant for the new transmission.. While it was out of the car, did you change the fluid or drop the pan for the filter.

No, we were on a time crunch to get it done before the sun went down. The torque converter must have had fluid in it because it only took about 3 1/2 quarts. We should have done it all but didnt.

Did you need to remove the driver side header to get the starter out? Also where do you unbolt the driveshaft at mine has two guibos one in front and one in rear. I was trying to avoid dropping the exhaust if possible
Took my buddy and I about 8 hours on the ground in his driveway. I bought the tranny from a salvage yard for $400 with 103k on it. Overall it went fairly smooth. Didnt have to remove any of the exhaust or steering linkage. Did have to remove the starter in order to get the flywheel off and the tranny support bracket. The 3 or 4 bolts on the top are the hardest part to get out, 1 person over the top of the engine reaching down so that I could hand the 17mm with lots of extensions on it and break them loose. All in all we said it was about a 7 out of 10 for tough jobs. I needed a new transmission because ours was slipping during shifts. If you gave it alot of gas it would slip but if not too much gas it was fine but Im sure it would have got worse. I was also getting transmission CEL's. Bought the WS fluid from Toyota. Glad we did it because we saved thousands.
Mine is a 2007 Is350 with 128k miles on it before we put in the new (used) tranny.

Is it AWD? If no and used trans is not leaking, go with that or void the warranty if there is one. Beyond that, pan gasket, filter, filter o-ring so it starts with fresh fluid (dump the TC) be sure your buds know how automatics work and why its critical to seat the TC correctly or damage the transmission.
