Default Floor jack and jack stands

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a floor jack and stands that aren't too expensive?

Costco has a good 3 Ton sort of low profile aluminum/steel jack for $97 and you can get a good pair of floor stands there also I'm pretty sure. Harbor Freight has jacks also. Make sure you get a 20% off coupon before you go. Walmart has jack stands for a really good price. Their ramps are good too and pretty cheap when compared to some other places.

Yep, Harbor Freight. I have two, an old steel one and a newer aluminum one. Get 'em while there on sale. Don't plan on using the 20% coupon though. The coupon does not work on the jacks. They also have jack stands. I have two pair. One short and one tall. I used 'em both when bleeding my brakes.

Yeah I have head that harbor freight makes good stands. I plan on trying to do more work to my car, such as putting on a midpipe as well as putting on coilovers. Definitely will be checking them out.

Just bought a Sears Craftsman low profile 2 1/2 ton low profile floor jack about 2 weeks ago for $60. Part of their Christmas specials. I have older jack stands from Harbor Freight that are working great for me.

If you have a local Sears, look up the 4 ton Craftsman black/yellow set. They were around $20. 4 ton is a bit much, but it's around the same price as the 2/3 tons

I have the craftsman as well but Im not a big fan. Its just a single piston design and takes for ever to pump up. At Sams club I bought this Michellin dual piston all aluminum one that works so much better.

I could probably get that at Costco too then. How much was it?

Its probably the same except a different name on it. This is from costco's website. The dual piston pumps up way faster.

I might go with the craftsman 4 ton then for now. Mainly because the price is a lot more appealing.

So this is what I got: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-ton...000P?rrec=true

Just had to build some ramps in order to get the jack under the car since it's lowered. My dad keeps sketching out about the jack stand but they seem to be fine as far as I am concerned. Can someone confirm that these work fine or should I look at some other ones?

I don't have those exact jack stands, mine are around 10 years old. But that is the best kind in my book. The ratchet adjustment makes it nice and quick to adjust the height. Not to disrespect your dad, but exactly what is his objection to them?

I found that my short jack is really hard to get far enough under my car and lip to place on the lift point so I got the long one from harbor frieght.
http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-l...ump-62310.html
this one reaches and still sticks out the front of the bumper far enough to get it in the air. My shorter one i have to pump like 5 short times just to get it to start lifting so i can lift the handle more then an inch.
Plus with the long reach it means it lifts higher as well, which makes it easier to work on the car.
