Default Goodbye all! It's been a fun 3 years!

Officially just sold my Lexus yesterday after 3 great years driving and modifying the car! A deal came up for a 2009 BMW X5 that I just couldn't pass up. My boss picked up a brand new X5M and sold me his X5 for a steal of a deal. I will miss the reliability and speed of the Lexus, but I have to admit, I am seriously enjoying driving the BMW now. The X5 with a 4.8L V8 and M sport package is a blast, especially in the snow with the AWD.

One last pic of the Lexus:

And bonus pic of my X5 and bosses X5M:

Haha we'll see... I won't lie, driving the BMW feels like driving a ticking time bomb that could at any point cost me thousands upon thousands of dollars.

But after driving the BMW for a couple months then getting back in the Lexus made the Lexus feel kinda loose and numb in comparison.

Depends, you cant exactly call 2IS a super reliable car with all the 250 engine issues and both 250/350 tranny issues. Most BMWs have stellar transmissions and motors, its usually bunch of small (but pricey) parts that fail.

Yea you keep telling yourself that lol, I came from BMW after 5 years and trust me, you aren't a real BMW owner until you see yours pulled up on a tow truck.

The 3 series have always had problems, here's a list from all the 3 series models I can roughly remember.

-plastic water pumps
-loose oil pump nuts
-subframe ripping the floor of the car apart
-mushrooming strut towers
-cracked shock towers
-VANOS jamming
-fuel pump breaks over and over and over again, BMW was placing these with faulty ones forever until they changed the part

And that's a short list probably, I stopped paying attention to the new ones. And these weren't really rare problems to say the least. And But I say all this with much love, the 3 series is still a favorite and I will probably get another as my secondary car.

The Lexus though... It has that refinement in smoothness that is too good to live without, I don't know of any other manufacturer whose making cars in the same class that are this smooth. It feels safe all the time in any kind of weather or type of road I find myself driving through.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy that BMW and it brings you many years of trouble service.

I know I rambled alot and I was about to delete this but I kind of wrote a lot so I'm just going to post it...

TLDR; Lexus reliability > BMW reliability, not to say the margin is big or anything, just overall.

Lexus is obviously more reliable then BMW, but you have to know what to buy etc. I would personally pick a 2/3 series vs IS250 for example. While my BMWs were not as reliable as my IS350, I had none of those issues you listed. I had 335i, M3, and now have M235i (which ranked the most reliable sports car in 2014 by consumer reports). I originally wanted 2012 IS-F for reliability, but that didnt happen and I figured BMW would cost me less over my ownership

It definitely won't be as reliable as my IS350, that thing never gave me any troubles in the 3 years of owning it. It was solid as a rock!

There's a number of common issues with the N62TU V8 engine in my X5, but I am hoping since it has been serviced regularly and well taken care of that I can get some use out of it before I have to start investing $$$ into it.

One super nice thing about the BMW... no interior rattles
