battery dead, tried to jump...wouldn't work
hi! i hope someone can help us. Battery was dead; no lights, no electrical lights at all. used portable battery jumper to no avail; lights come on, though faded a bit, but no starting of engine. any advice? may try to jump with another car and jumper cables tomorrow. even if it starts, does this mean that the battery needs to be recharged? thanks so much for your help

If you can get it started, get over to autozone or similar. They have testers they can connect up and run a test to see if its the battery or the alternator. If its the alternator it could also have taken out your battery due to improper charging..

Did this happen suddenly?
if it did, it doesn't seem to just be a battery problem. Typically. When a battery starts to fail, it will fail to start a few times but still able to be jump started.
Regardless, the battery should be changed. You can remove the battery from the car and bring it to a place that tests batteries for free (autozone, Walmart, orileys, etc).
make sure to correctly diagnose the problem before fixing as these type of work/parts are expensive

If a cell went bad chances are a boost isn't going to help. You will need a new battery. Costco carries either Kirkland Brand or Interstate. If you wanted to give it one last effort you might connect a charger to it for 20 minutes or have some let you hook up to their running car for 10 minutes to see if it will take enough of a charge to get you going.

If the alternator is gone, dead, no good, all the "jumping" in the world won't start it. At least that was true in my case. Needed an alternator and a new battery since when the alt. failed it took the battery with it. I hope your problem was a simple fix. Good luck.
