Coolant Smell and Steam But No Leaks
Hello. Drove to the city yesterday. As we were at a stop where the sunlight is directly in front, I notice some steam or vapor coming from the front, then that sweet smell of coolant. As we get to our destination, I popped the hood and assessed the situation. There was some faint smoke/vapor all over the front end but no signs of leaks anywhere. Parked my car then after couple of hrs later, left to head out to another destination, but did not notice the smoke/vapor appear again. Got home and re-assesed. No leaks, no smoke, or any suspicious noises. This morning, re-assessed still no leaks. I did notice some coolant crusting around the overflow tank cap seam and coolant is below low level. Don't know if this is normal or what. Please chime in. My '06 IS350 currently has 143k miles.

The coolant level in the overflow tank is not a reliable indicator. When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap. The coolant should be all the way to the top, no air pocket.
