This looks so nice

But there's this upper portion of the dash that also has the radio, and that's a huge waste of real estate. But of course nobody knows if I can just remove it and still retain AC and not get a airbag light cause that's also another issue I've read people have.

Nobody has shown doing this, and nobody has explained if the Axxess TYTO-01 is what I need to get basic sound working. So what I decided to do is get this very nice 10.2 inch Android stereo that will replace that section of the dash. It's $450, but I'm looking to spend serious money anyway to do what this does. The adapter for sound is $50 at least, and to retain controls on the steering wheel is another $50, plus to get the plastic adapter which I was going to cut then plastic weld and paint was $30. The stereo I want to put in is $150, so that's $300 for something I'm not certain that'll work. Or at least something that'll work but no AC controls.

I've noticed that newer cars make it difficult to put aftermarket stereo's in their cars but this does seem purposely done to avoid that. My IS250 doesn't have the Navigation in it, but you can look at one and see that makes it far more easier to put in a 2din aftermarket stereo cause you have the space. You don't even need to mess with the lower portion of the stereo which removes the AC functionality. Also, why put necessary AC circuits in the stereo? Just seems so intentional.

So let me get this straight, the airbag light comes on the dash cause there's no airbag light where the stereo is? Am I right to say this? From what I can see there are two lights, one that says Air Bag On, and one that says Air Bag Off. Kinda hard to see. The reason for this is because in Japan they don't have these lights so the Chinese omitted them from the design. So I'm thinking that like most crap on modern cars, the Lexus is looking for a load from the light and isn't finding it and thus causing the air bag light to come on. But if that's the case then I would need 2 resistors to remove the air bag light.

Kinda hard to tell from the photo of this hazard switch clock thing that has those lights in it. Looking at other IS forums I think the resistor to use is a 1 Megohm resistor, because they removed the seats for aftermarket ones. So I'm thinking that's the same amount of ohms needed to turn off the light. But I could be wrong and you need something equivalent to that of a tiny light bulb. One way to find out is the take apart the hazard switch section and see where the wires go to. If it's just a light then we need to wire a light bulb or a resistor and we're done. Could even drill a hole somewhere and stick the lights there and with a sharpie write Air Bag On and Air Bag Off. Ugly, but still funny. If there's more than just a bulb then maybe the 1 Megohm thing might work.

I'm extremely lazy but maybe tomorrow I'll find the time to take it apart and see what's going on.
There is a pressure sensor in the seat that turns on the "Passenger" light, but there is also the airbag light on the center console. With the aftermarket kits not having the airbag lights the light on your dash comes on indicating an issue.
Let me know if you get it working and how because I would love to get one of these in my car.

Well my car is disabled right now due to seized motor, but that means I can freely check to see if it is just a light bulb, but it's just a matter of finding time. Got a guy who's ready to put an engine in the car, but he doesn't have the car yet so I may have time to take a quick look see.

Been a while but I finally got my car situation in order, in that it runs now. Going after the stereo cause I want it upgraded to something not ****. Took the display apart to see if it's just a simple light and... nope. It could be but I can't make heads or tails if a sophisticated circuit exists for that light or it just powers a light through all that mess. So I guess that means that 10.2 inch screen isn't going to work without that airbag light even though I see a airbag light in the photo, but that's a passenger light I think. I may just contact the seller to see if this is guaranteed to work for my car instead of blindly purchasing it. I would love to hear from anyone who's ever installed a standard 2din aftermarket radio cause I would rather go that route, if I can avoid the issue of the climate control problems. If I plan to install a standard 2din radio where the climate controls are, I'll certainly have more issues to deal with.

I could have sworn I saw a post where someone solved the air light issue. I think it was in the audio special interest area.

As always everybody take it on his own risk. I only show what worked for my IS. No guarantee!

Short background: As you might know from the first thread I used to have the original looking thonzer navigation with the crappy sound and many issues. So i managed to send it back to thonzer and made them send me an updated model. By asking for details they told me that it will be the new tesla-style unit (same as Car-Da) I agreed even if I didn´t like the appearance that much in the beginning. They told me it doesn´t have the passenger airbag issue, so i accepted.
Well unfortunately it had the airbag issue as well (because I own the european Lexus IS model).

After days of research and visits of a handful of car navigation and hifi specialists, which all did not want to touch the airbag-security system, me and a friend of mine who is mechatronic technician decided to try it on our own. Here I have to thank MattaS for uploading the wiring diagrams. That was a big help.

First we bought a couple of different resistors, took the wiring diagrams and measured all relevant pins of the relevant connector when connected to the original unit (also we tested what happens by switching the airbag off and on). We figured out how the system works and how the voltage is changing by switching on and off.

What we figured out:

black 12V (Ignition)
Airbag ON:
- purple 12V
- grey 0.3V

Airbag OFF:
- gray 12V
- purple 0.3V

In the following graphic you can see that we put one 910-resistor between black (IG+) and purple (P-AB) and one 1500-resistor between purple (P-AB) and grey (PAON):

For me it is a great solution because if the passenger Airbag is switched ON the sytem light comes first up for couple seconds (thats normal system check) and then disappears. As soon as you switch OFF the passenger airbag, the system warning light appears and uses as new "passenger airbag indicator".

If you switch OFF the passenger airbag, the red airbag-system light comes back and stays. If you switch it back ON it stays faulty until you switch off ignition for couple seconds.

So thanks again espacially MattaS for the wiring stuff and your work so far and also thanks thonzer lady for always trying your best and beeing nice and friendly :P

PS: I uploaded a Video to youtube to prove that it works: https://youtu.be/xQFO_MEqEPY

What parts did you use to do this? I just got a 2007 is250 and I love it except that the stereo is so outdated.
