This was meant to prevent the failure of the amps and in some cases now it’s causing a problem with the navi units as they share the same power supply and start up on a blank screen. This vent goes bad on every Lexus IS Vehicle so if you have one please check on that vent before it causes damage.
May I ask . . .how do I open it up? Once open - how do I access the bottom of the motherboard? Isn't it spot welded into the surface of the AMP circuit board framing? How do I do this deed? I am a newbie to circut boards, but expect to be able to remove old, soder in new - and see what happens . . .I really appreciate the extra info on this - I can not find any other post on how to correct the AMP issue.
Replaced my vent flaps over the holiday weekend. Both of my flaps were completely gone, allowing moisture and debris up into both side cavities. What a mess!
Gville350, might you have photos of the OEM vent replaced and new vent installed (part 62930-12161)? I'm interested if new vent / part, was redesigned and looked different than the OEM vent removed (review photos below). Also, I was able to confirm that the flexible flap attached to OEM vent, is harder than the rubber flap attached to new vent received. Perhaps the existing OEM flap is hard due to aging or just a better design than new vent received??
Thank you for this thread, just checked mines and the flaps were missing on both of them, was an easy replacement. Luckily the amplifier was free of any moisture or dirt. But the area was very dusty.

nugentnsb, do you recall what the original vent assembly looked like compared to the new vents you received / installed (reference previous reply with vent photos).
, Pop the two tabs on top, push it out then pop it up and it should fall out. The bumper may have to be pressed outwards a bit to clear. Reversal is just the opposite.

Pictures please. We can guide you. 99% of the time, the case has a pemstud and the board is screwed to it with conventional fasteners.

No pics, sorry. But I did purchase a set (2) of P/N 62930-12161. They both looked the same. No chance I was able to compare the important part, the rubber flap itself, because they were MIA on the old ones. The design looked the same though.
I have a 2009 IS250AWD. I did mine in about 10 minutes for both sides. Pop em out from the inside and push em in from the outside. It was a little tight but i didn't take anything apart beside the trunk panel on each side. I bought mine from https://www.mylparts.com/ they were $37 each, They were Lexus /Toyota OEM.

Update since I posted nearly 4 years ago, checked mine again today and the flaps were gone. Ordered a set. They're actually a bit pricey, fortunately found a set of 2 on eBay that were priced well.
I'd get into a habit of checking them yearly (if they've never been changed), especially if you start noticing any weird pressure changes in the cabin, or notice condensation in your trunk.
edit: Installed them today. They're a bit hard to tell if they're in properly because they don't exactly "snap" into place. My advice to anyone looking back at this post is to not deal with the hassle of forcing the new ones in through the trunk, just remove the two screws from the bumper near the wheel well so you can pull it out a little bit. Look at this diagram for the location of them: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...structions.jpg
Today a local body shop replaced the original failed parts. I paid $150 for labor, but it included replacing the rusted out AMP with an Ebay sourced used AMP (which worked perfectly)
I purchased the replacement vents from eBay - listed as "2 NEW Genuine OEM Lexus Quarter Vent Ducts Left and Right 62930-12161" for $56.00 shipped to my door. $56 for both.
Here are the photos of what my old vents looked like - both "flappers" were total M.I.A.
I believe it is wise to inspect these vents every time you change your oil.
If they fail - and you drive in any moisture at all - the AMP will be knocked out of service again.
