I’ve parked my car in the blistering heat, slammed my doors, etc., and nothing has gone wrong or blown up. YMMV.
Just did this in my GS460, Thanks for the advice

To confirm, both vents were removed and openings covered opening with plastic / vinyl sheeting, and taped over into place.

That's correct, I covered them with gorilla tape. But on further consideration / research, I ordered one replacement trunk vent flap thing, I will install that on the side away from the amp. I dont want issues with seals / pressure / ventilation.

Understood. Thank you for the follow up. I was interested if sealing the vent opening completely may impact interior pressure / ventilation.

From what I read online, anecdotally, it might. In my experience over the past week, I couldnt tell any difference.

The humidity is certainly the cause but this long exposure to humidity causes the solder joints on the underside of the mother board of the Amp to crack. These cracks is what causes the Amp to stop working. To fix this you need to take out the Amp, and open it up. There is a mother board and a daughter board inside. You need to access the bottom side of the motherboard. There you will see some rust around the board, carefully clean that up. You will also notice a couple of large solder joints with cracks. They are close to the underside of the two large capacitors. They are hard to miss. If you are comfortable with soldering, melt the old solder and try to remove it, then re-solder the joint with new solder. Do this for any joints that are cracking. For extra protection, grab some conformal coating from Amazon and apply on top of the repaired solder joints. This will prevent damage due to moisture in the future. If you don’t know how to solder, take the board to a local electronics shop and they should be able to do it for you for 10-20 bucks. Grab some sand paper and sand away the surface rust on the metal housing at all points where the small screws are used. And Viola! You just saved hundreds of dollars on a new amp.
By any chance can you post a youtube video of this repair? Would be of great use.

That vid was great. Worked on my GS460 (at least for removal). Will possibly work for installation as well. Dont see the need to remove the rear bumper

Oceans13: After nearly 7 months, would you kindly post an update on the vents being covered with tapes? Did you notice any impact on the pressure inside the cabin and/or the trunk?
Thanks

Ok so are the "Ebay OEM" real hard to install. I replaced mine last year some time. The fit was terrible definitely not OEM fit. This is why I stay away from Ebay. They go as far putting up legit dealers as seller information.

Once getting the part visual inspection of packaging clearly not OEM.

That what I thought of. If the ones made by Lexus did not last long, then the ones made in China or somewhere would not even fit. I'm planning on doing something to solve this Lexus problem.
I am hoping Oceans13 update us.

In addition to replacing duct vents, throwing in few packets of Silica Gel might help to prevent keeping the moisture out of the amp area. They come free with everything you buy these days, might as well find a good use for them. In the winter I put few pouches on the dash, it prevents from fogging up and frosting the windshield.
Just sayin’
