Keyless entry problems!
Hi. We purchased a 2006 is250 last night and after we got home I realised that the car isn't locking or opening just by hand touch or by touching the button on the door handle. The light sensor turns on when I walk near the car and only unlocks and locks when I use the actual remote. Any ideas why it might be doing this?

So pushing the button on the handle of the door doesn't lock the door? If the puddle lights are coming on, the car is sensing the fob and, I assume, recognizes it as one programmed to the car. I expect there are dealer programmable settings to disallow the handle locks to be turned off. Best bet is to go to a dealer and have them set the custom settings for the car.to your liking. It'll cost $100 or so, but doing it yourself will require a techstream device and the know how of doing it. It can be done pretty cheaply (less than the dealer charges) and easily from what I've read. Do some searching here about dealer settings and such.

Yeah when I press the button the car just lets out a long beep and doesn't lock. I have to actually lock it with the remote and then when I try to open it by just grabbing the handle nothing happens so it's pretty weird! Pretty upset about the purchase because it also turns out the car needs a new compressor because the a/c isn't working 🙁

The long beep is strange, that's what it does when the fob is left in the car or there is a door ajar, but the car will not lock or lock from the fob. How's the battery in the fob. Maybe a weak battery? As for the compressor, they can be found on ebay for not too bad and any reputable A/C shop can replace it and recharge the system for not too much. It is an 11 year old car and they are pretty reliable. Some things just don't make it that long. Don't be discouraged, you'll have fun with it.

I just tried turning on the car and it turned on even though I left my key outside of the car lol! So I'm going to have a look around and hopefully find it under the seats somewhere!

Does the compressor spin if set to cool and AC is enabled? I have Nav unit, so AC can be disabled within a menu.
If the compressor never spins even when set to cool and defrost, check the pressure low side pressure, it could be a slow leak disabling the compressor as it has a low pressure cut off to save it from damage if the freon leaks out.
