Considering Buying An 07 IS250. Reliability at High Mileage?
I'm currently in the need for a daily driver and have found an 07 is250 awd. It has 130,xxx miles and are asking $8500. It seems to be well kept and in good shape. I have an 07 Toyota tacoma which I bought brand new. It only has 60,xxx, but other than one recall and scheduled maintenance, I have never had a problem. So I'm somewhat familiar with Toyota/Lexus reliability. I obviously don't want to buy a used car that will require a lot of work and money. This Lexus seems very nice, but the high mileage worries me. I keep reading stories of carbon buildup and water/fuel pump failure. If properly maintained, is 130,xxx a lot of miles or too many to consider buying? I've read a few instances of people getting 200k, but is that common or the exception to the rule?

130k is not high. Carbon build up however is real. Cost to replace is 9k, and youre out of warranty. Unless you buy used which is much cheaper, but you still run the risk
I am only assuming youre getting a 250 due to awd? If you can do rwd...the 350 will give you a much better shot at longer life.
I have a 250 and a shop that does walnut blasting, so its not really a concern. Most members i talk to dont have that luxury.

Thanks for the reply. I really want this car, but understandably, I'm hesitant due to the carbon buildup. Is there a way to check for carbon buildup? I'm absolutely not mechanically inclined, so that may be a dumb question. But is there a way to check before I buy? Also, would it be something that would be immediately noticeable while driving? The dealership is about 1.5 hours, approximately 70 miles from where I live. They have agreed to let me bring the car to my local mechanic to have it looked at. So I would be driving the car around 3 hours, 140 miles round trip. Would I know while driving it that distance? And would my mechanic be able to spot it or run some sort of diagnostic, or is it all completely internal? Thanks for all the help.
