Default Brake, ABS, AF-S, P/S, Passenger Airbag, No Speedometer

Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 Lexus IS 250 with a weird issue. I've had this car for 4 months and it's been running perfectly ever since, no check lights or error lights. Yesterday I parked the car for an hour after driving for 30 minutes. I come back, turn on the car, and on the dash the brake, abs, af-s, passenger airbag, and power steering lights are on. Also, none of the electronics inside the car are working, so none of the interior lights, auto headlights aren't working, nor is the AC. It's raining and cold, so the wipers aren't working either unless it's in the highest speed.

I drove it for an hour home and the speedometer isn't working. I had the battery tested at autozone and they said the battery is bad, but it was fully charged. There was also a lot of corrosion on it. I cleaned the corrosion and put in a working battery, but the problem still persists. I also got no error codes when testing that. I tested the fuses and they work.

The car runs normal, but I get no power steering, speedometer, or climate control.

Any idea on what the problem could be? When the problem happened, it was 35 degrees and raining, if that means anything. The Lexus dealer is charging $70 just to look at the car, so any troubleshooting before then would be immensely helpful

Edit: I added brake fluid, but that didn't fix anything

SOLUTION with pics! Check below!

I think you already your own question. The battery is bad. Under load it is failing. You need to replace it before you really do some serious damage. This car requires a fully charged and strong working battery.

If I were you I would replace the battery and pray you didn't cause any other damage.

Thanks for the reply. I did put in a like-new battery that was fully charged earlier today to see if anything would change. I just went out to the car and disconnected the negative terminal because I read that it resets the computer. I'll wait 30 minutes to see if anything changes. The old battery was fully charged, just bad.

If you already put a working battery. It might be your alternate going. If you have a OHM meter. Check DC voltage while the car is running at the battery.

I just did an alternator test by turning the engine on and disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. The car continued to run.

I also attempted to reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal and pressing the brake about 10 times.

Problem persists

So you checked all fuse boxes 3 under the hood. 2 inside the cabin left and right lower portion of the footwells?

I will check the rest of the fuse boxes tomorrow. Under the driver side, the middle row fuses weren't lighting up. I replaced the actual fuse, and the actual fuses were working properly, just the middle row wasn't lighting up using a tester.

Also, I glanced at the fuse boxes on near the battery under the hood (Engine compartment type A) and fuses 10-29 aren't there. There's a clear plastic top, but there are no fuses installed. I followed the manual, but am not sure what's up with that.

I will check the passenger side and type B engine compartment tomorrow morning

You never said anything about load testing the replacement battery.
FWIW - disconnecting the battery while the engine is running is not a valid alternator test. Likely a good way to induce an electrical spike that damages something else.

The buss bar seen through the clear plastic cover is a series of fuseable links. If you look inside there is fine gauge metal in a Z shape like other fuses. Likely one or more is open and the Z is burned out. Look closer and/or get the cover off for inspection.

PS there is an active thread on this topic tight now with pictures. Look for it.

Thanks for the help everyone

I finally found a solution and it was a blown fuse near the passenger foot well, specifically #17 - ECU - IG RH.

Was a 15A fuse in there previously. A 10A fuse is the correct one.
Broken circuit in the 15A fuse
Brake light, ABS, AF-S flashing, passenger airbag, power steering lights on
No more lights!
