Default 2006 IS250 Wont start, fuel pump?

Some days when I start it, the car will start fine, other days it will seem like its lagging as if it's cranking over very slow.

I kind of had a previous issue where the card just died out on my a few years ago in the middle of the night and that issue turned out to be the alternator.

I don't think the same issue this time around.. Any input would be much appreciated.

Had to take a sick day at work to see what I need to do.

FYI - the car does have 200k miles on it

What is God's name is that awful sound at 0:07? Is that your car trying to start? That sounds like a starter solenoid not kicking the starter in all the way and the starter gears are grinding against the flywheel. Kind of like in the old days when you tried to start your key-start car when it was already running.

I would also venture a guess at the starter here.

Bendix solenoid is not moving the bendix (toothed gear on the starter) into the flywheel. Its just mashing into the flywheel.

This could be the starter solenoid, a worn bendix, mechanical failure of the startee, a bad connection limiting current flow from battery to starter, or even a damaged flywheel.

Confirm the cables are good and the starter has it bolts in it. You might also get under it and pull the inspection cover off the transmission. You can inspect the teeth on the flywheel. Also, if you use a socket and rotate the engine a small amount using the bolt in the cranks end you may be able to get the starter to engage.

Try turning the engine first just 30 degrees or so and try again. If that fails, do the following: Find hammer. Find tool to transfer the punch to the starter solenoid. Hit it hard several times and try again. The starter will probably kick in and start the car, but expect it to be a very temporary fix.
