HID Headlights acting like Christmas lights... Why?
I have a 2006 IS360 with factory HID headlights. Bulbs were replaced about 2 years ago. Recently I noticed my right headlight would go off occasionally. If I turned off the switch and back on, it would come back on. Maybe for 5 minutes, maybe for all night? Then the left HID would do the same thing. THEN both would go off. Its like trying to find the bad bulb on the Christmas tree...ahhhhhhh. It is an intermittent problem and just started when the weather turned colder. I tested my battery and it is showing fully charged and fully operational.
Anyone had a similar problem? Results? Suggestions?

These situations can be tricky - your initial symptoms suggest a bulb not getting a consistent signal to fire up, which could suggest a ballast, but if you're having issues on both sides it is harder to diagnose the real problem. If you hit a patch where it seems like the issue is isolated to one side, try swapping the bulbs to see if you get any difference in the behaviour. You might end up having a bad part on each side here, but it's harder to tell whether Bulb or Ballast is your culprit in this circumstance.
@bagwell is right, though, if you're going to blind-buy something to test against other working parts, bulbs would be the cheaper option, typically speaking.

06 lexus has problems with water leakage into the headlight/ballast. Water causes corrosion underneath the headlights, causing malfunctions etc. I'd buy oem ballasts off of ebay and install em.

First question, what bulbs did you replace them with? Crap bulbs will give you crap down the road. Because it's cheapest, try replacing both bulbs with QUALITY HID bulbs. If no change, you'll need new ballasts.
FYI, my factory HIDs that came in my car lasted almost 10yrs. Quality replacement bulbs should last just as long.
Good luck!

This. And if you think you scored an amazing deal by purchasing a reputable brand from a vendor that isn't an authorized reseller (e.g., eBay, other online marketplace, etc.) at a fraction of the normal selling price, it's quite likely you bought counterfeits.
