Hey I hope someone can help here. I have a 2007 IS 250 AWD. So I started having a clunk, click, whine really bad a few weeks ago coming from the driver side front.
I had replaced the passenger side front CV axle a while back, so figured it was the drivers side CV axle. Well replaced it and the same thing.
After researching the only thing left was the front AWD axle shaft. So I picked up a used one off of a AWD IS250. Put it on, it fit perfectly and no clunking , clicking or anything and it' perfect now up until 20mph. Then it starts a loud pitch whine that is extremey loud 50mph. Like I gotta turn the radio on.
The one thing I noticed when myself and my mechanic put it on, on my old AWD shaft we took off, there is 2 very small weights that look like counter balance weights on each end of the shaft. Looks like a tire weight for balancing.
The new shaft only has 1 weight on one end and the other weight has fell off on the other end of the shaft where it's suppose to be.
My question is would that make such a huge difference and make it whine that loud? That shaft is only about 18inchs long total. I just would not think it would throw it out of balance that much.
Anything else it could be at all? That was certainly the problem on mine, but this one fixed all except the excessive loud whine. Thanks for any help I have a trip tomorrow and need to get this fixed.

Hey there thanks for reply. I never saw a shield around that area that could touch it when we had it on the rack.
The rear main drive shaft did have a shield over it I think, but not that AWD shaft. It had 6 torque bolts on each side that connected it. Was pretty easy install.
Anything else u can think of? Appreciate the help

Did you get the wheel bearing replaced when the axle was being replaced? I've heard from my technician that it usually gets damaged during the install process so they replace them anyways
