So I bought my 2008 IS about a month ago and I'm new to lexus. My low beam just went out, and I went to check what bulb I have and its a HID. Its the D4S HID I believe but I am not honestly sure. So my questions are, how do I know for sure it is a D4S and not another HID? Also are kits sold to retrofit HID kits for a D4S bulb in place of halogen bulbs? I'm under the impression that if it is the D4S bulb then I have the AFS option, but I do not have that as an on screen option, nor do I have a switch for it that I can find. I even tried looking under the dash which was suggested to me. I just want to buy the correct bulbs the first time.

Thank you for the help. Its been bugging me trying to find it on cq.
Pull the bulb, that's the easiest way to tell if you have OEM HIDs or aftermarket. Most likely since you appear to have a base 250 with no options, I doubt you have the stock HID option. IIRC, the AFS option can be accessed through pressing the button underneath the brightness **** left of the steering wheel.
Just open the cover and you'll know. Also it will have the high voltage electrical shock risk symbol.
My D4S crapped at the 5 year 50,000 mi mark. Swap the bulbs from left to right and verify the problem follows the bulb.
A single grease print touch to this bulb will kill it. Do not touch the glass. If you do by accident, wipe with isopropyl alcohol from a lint free cotton cloth.
Also, the car has left and right fuses. You might verify that before going too far.
that year would have come with AFS. It will be obvious if you have OEM HID if the auto level turns on during engine start. Also...you should see the AFS swivel when you turn into curves if you have OEM HID.
