Hi,
As the title suggests, my chrome steering wheel "L" badge on my 2010 IS250 had the chrome all scratched and peeling, so I hopped on eBay and ordered a replacement badge for a few dollars which arrived in the mail today. I figured that since the replacement badge had 3M tape on the back of it, the one fitted to my steering wheel would be the same - NOPE!
Without really giving it much thought, I pried off the badge which had little 'legs' attached to parts of the badge that extended inside the wheel itself. Some legs broke off, some came right out of the bag and remained on the old badge. It wasn't until I started sticking the new badge on that I started becoming worried that this was probably not the right thing to do. You'll have to forgive me, I am new to owning a Lexus.
Anyway I typed in a few keywords into Google which returned forums and topics of people doing what they could to repair their badge without replacing. Some saying that the badge is attached to the airbag itself, while others saying its only plastic welded to the inside of the wheel. I managed to find a thread with some pictures illustrating what I had gone through but I've now become very worried that my airbag is potentially not safe anymore and might deploy randomly - is this a real possibility?

I started the engine before and ran it for a while and I didn't spot any airbag warning signs or anything, but again, I'm still worried about this. Does anyone have any information that they can share on this subject? The new badge is currently on there now and looking great FYI.
Thank you.

Although I cannot be 100% certain, I’m 95% sure you’ll be fine. The airbag is not attached to the plastic emblem, that just wouldn’t make sense. The biggest concern I would think would be the plastic emblem flying off in an accident and causing some damage/injury. But again I’m only speculating here
There was a user user on here that replaced his steering wheel emblem, I’ll see if I can find it fit you
hope that helps
edit* this is the guy who took his off

Yeah i I guess what you are saying makes sense. I wasn’t thinking logically and was in a panic when I wrote this. It would not make sense for the badge to be welded to the bag itself & if I have affected the bag in any way, I’m sure it would have returned a warning light by now.
thanks for replying
