Hello everyone,
When I was headed home my car started making this thumping sound as if one my tires were blown. So I got out the car an inspected to see if any of my tires was flat which it wasn’t. However, there was smoke coming from the back end. Fast forward I got my car towed home and now I have my car jacked up and notice a massive leak around my rear differential. I unscrewed the fill and drain bolts and notice my drain bolt is bent and no oil is coming out. Before jacking my car up I started It and put it into gear however I my car would not move forward or go into reverse. Could the differential be the cause or is it my transmission? Thanks in advance for any response!

Thanks for all the responses. The check engine light isn’t on so I guess that’s a good sign. I’m thinking about changing the diff myself but I couldn’t find any guides on here so I’m kind of hesitant.

Look in the IS-F build threads for LSD swaps and you'll find some DIY action.
Biggest tip is once the suspension is free and you're ready to pop the axles out, insert two prybars or large screwdrivers 180° apart and pop the axle free.
People try to pry from one side and all it does is embed the snap ring deeper locking the axle in place. A quick snap or pop straight out using two prybars spaced equally apart and its free in a second.

Yeah, hopefully the damage is JUST your rear carrier there. That won't be too bad of a repair. In fact, you can source a good, used ENTIRE rear carrier for $300 online or your local parts yards.
Good luck, and keep us update on your project here. This is the FIRST I've seen of such an instance like this happening online here!

Okay it’s been a while but I finally had time to change my rear diff Everything went smoothly, however I have several lights on my dash check 4wd, check VSC, abs, and brake lights is on. Also my speedometer doesn’t move. Despite that my car runs great.
