Question Brakes help please.

Good Evening my fellow Lexus enthusiasts. I just completed a brake job on my 06 IS250. This is the first brake job I have done to the car personally. New rotors and pads. I noticed during the installation of the rear brake caliper that there was a good amount of space in between the bracket, and the caliper mount itself. When tightening down the two bolts it pulled on the rotor. I was concerned about the outcome, but put it all together to test it anyways. Probably not the smartest idea, but I took it into consideration on my test drive. I went half a mile out, and turned around. Upon returning home the pads were smoking, and the rotors got hot enough to discolor slightly. Looking for any advice as to what may be the issue that caused this. Thank you in advance. Take care.

I suspect you didn’t turn in the emergency brake caliper when you installed the new pads in the rear. I think you have to turn them inward with a tool.

Thank you for the responses. I went ahead and pulled everything off. This time taking out the one bolt holding the caliper to the mount. Tried rotating the caliper down to pull it off. The caliper is seized onto the pin that it would normally float on. Looking like I will just go ahead and replace the mounts, and calipers. There was abnormal wear on the pads anyways so it was coming soon. Thank you guys for the assistance.

Use this to keep all your brake pins lubricated. Especially on the rear caliper pin. It holds up well over time.

Your story was almost exactly like mine, except I was actually breaking in the pads; so my amount of smoke was obscene! But yeah, this was my first brake job on the car at around 33k miles and I learned quickly I had the dreaded seized caliper ON BOTH SIDES. Might I mention that the previous owner had the recall done on the rear calipers for the slide pin seals, and that obviously didn't help.

Replaced both with new OEM calipers, and all is good to this day.
