Default Metallic Rattling Noise. Loose Heat Shield?

Hi all,

So over the last couple months I have noticed an inconsistent metallic rattling noise coming from the front of the vehicle. I mainly hear it when I have my music off, windows down, and am driving slowly like in a parking lot or in my neighborhood. My first guess would be that it is a heat shield, but I do not have access to ramps and a driveway at the moment. If I remember correctly, I am hearing it most after letting off the accelerator and then coasting at a slow speed. Anyone have any ideas? Some searching made it seem like there were suspension issues for others in the past that caused a rattle when going over bumps, but my issue occurs when just driving slowly on flat/smooth ground. I'm sure the noise is probably happening at higher speeds too, but road and wind noise would drown it out. Thanks for any help on what to check first.

No one? I am taking my car in to be looked at in the next couple of weeks and would like to be able to point the mechanic toward what to look at? I really don't want to have to tell him "so drive extremely slowly next to a wall or a row of cars so you can hear the sound clearly and guess from there". I would rather be able to tell him "please look at this bushing, the heat shield, this engine mount, etc." Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

only thing I can think of is indeed a heat shield that is vibrating at a certain speed.
since you don't have access to under the car, why not just open the engine bay yourself and start poking around?
I would start at the intake location since it was altered during the joez install.

It doesn't seem to make the noise when sitting still, but I guess I could still poke my head around. Joez shouldn't have anything to do with it because I've had it for a couple years, but the noise just started the last few months.

I hope it's not the water pump! Just had that replaced last year.

Cracked exhaust manifold? Hair line crack sounds like mini machine gun. Happened to a Civic I used to own.

I just had to replace a rusted out heat shield clamp on my '07 the other day. It was located just under the driver's seat area. The rattling noise was most noticable during low speed or idling. Pretty easy fix. Good luck with your noise problem.

Just a heads up, just took my car in yesterday to get an AR25 resonator welded in and they saw exactly what ballz50401 mentioned above. It was just a clamp on my heat shield that was loose causing the annoying metallic rattling sound.

Side note, the new resonator is awesome and adds just the right amount of throatiness. Still a quite car at idle, but sounds way better than just the stand alone Tsudo axleback when accelerating.
