What's the extra filter built into the air box? I'm sure it gets clogged/dirty. Does anyone clean it, or remove it? Just wondering. I saw it while checking my air filter. Seems like it would cut air flow even more than normal?
That is a carbon charcoal filter used to reduce emissions from return gas fumes. It is not meant to be removed and is fastened in by plastic "rivets." Some people have removed it, but it provides no benefit in airflow or horsepower. Simply put there is no reason to remove it.
I did the charcoal filter delete mod on my 250 AWD. It revs beter, but you lose the low end grunt. I have everything back to stock including the oem air filter now. To me the car runs best with the OEM setup.

Oh, Charcoal.....I'll just leave it in I guess.. I've never seen one, so that's why I asked about it.
Thanks to all!
