Default Swapping Alternators (2007 vs 2010, etc.)

Hello folks,

Preface: After some testing, my voltage regular and battery have failed on my 2010 AWD IS250. Voltage regulator puts out 13.2 at idle, which is not where it should be ideally. I don't have issues starting or running, but I'd rather perform preventive maintenance than be stuck in the middle of nowhere because the alternator finally died. After swapping in new alternator, I want to run a few tests before replacing the Panasonic battery also.

Simple question: Can I straight swap a 2006-2009 (IS250) alternator into a 2010 (IS250)?
There's a Remy (12724) alternator that's about 25% cheaper, but only available for 2006-2009 models on RockAuto.

Are there any changes or modifications to the alternator? Can I safely go ahead and purchase the alternator listed under 2009 and complete a straight swap without issues into a 2010?

Thanks in advance,

Slavik

The alternators for the 2006-2013 IS250/350 are interchangeable. You should have no trouble at all.

I notice that there are some alternators with 150 & 130AMPS. Are both sufficient for a completely stock IS250, with at most a GROM Vline unit installed?

Thanks,

Slavik

The factory alternator is 150A for both the IS250 and IS350. I wouldn't run a 130A unless you had no other choice.

I ask because I'm very tempted to pick up this alternator for my 2010 Lexus IS250 for only $75 (with core, w/out for $150).

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...generator,2412

Problem is, it does not state the AMP rating anywhere.

Is this is a safe alternator to swap into my vehicle (which will be bare stock, besides a GROM VLINE infotainment system)?

I believe that's the part number for the OEM alternator, not the remanufactured one here. I may be wrong.

The last time I purchased an alternator I just bought a used one off of ebay for $15. It came from back East and had salt corrosion on it but worked fine. The seller (a junkyard) claimed it only had 80K miles on it. How many miles are on your car that you need a new alternator? The last Toyota alternator that I had to replaced had 260k miles on it.

Your voltage output will vary based on battery charge AFAIK.

I'm at 50k miles on my 2010 IS250. My voltage regulator has failed (measures at 13.2), but my diodes show as still good. Battery also failing, rated 423/800 CCA (though still starting fine).

No idea why, but the alternator is failing.

I recently had to replace a 2008 RX350 alternator also at 65k miles. Are alternators a common issue with Lexus?

Thanks for the help,

Slavik
