Default Hood release cable

The hood release cable on my 08 IS250 is stretched, not broken. I was wondering if I can tape a new cable to the old one and pull it through the housing so I don’t have to remove the fender well. I can still open the hood but want to fix this before it breaks. I can prob remove the cable from the under dash release lever and whatever is holding the cable is too large to go thru the cable housing,I can prob just cut that off. Appreciate any help you can give. Thanks—-LJ

The factory cable will be held in place with various clips. So unless the cable is no longer affixed to the car with those clips, you could try what you mentioned. But more than likely that is not the case. Best to locate where the cable is routed and route the replacement through the same areas.
