Vibrations at speed
Hey guys,
I'm experiencing some vibration issues over 60mph... it's intermittent like 1 second on and off. I was wondering if anyone's had some experience in this matter. I'm thinking i need to balance my wheels. I also experience some pull when i'm going over bumps now that wasn't there before.
So my question is, anyone whose experienced these issues.. is it separate or would it be one cause?
I'm not opposed as to changing out the control arms/struts/or bushings but i just wanted to get a second opinion before i start doing so.

I would start by inspecting all 4 tires for damage, runout, bumps, bulges ect. Verify all lug nuts are tight too.
Factory wheels or ???
If all is still well, take it in and watch them balance the tires taking note of what weights are on the wheels and where, and compare that to as left after test drive. I would also ask them to observe run-out, wobble, concentric, and maybe look for belt damage too.
I'm not sure it is fair to state that it pulls when going over bumps. Bumps will impact steering input. Perhaps elaborate on this...
FWIW Worn shocks do not make a car pull.

i'm at 120k miles too, so my concern is would the control arm bushings be worn out? I guess i'll take it one step at a time... might be a good excuse for some new wheels also
Thanks for the insight, 2013Fsport - appreciate it!

I ran into this too... but a quick inspection indicated my struts were on their way out. Then again, mine is an '07. Tire balance and rotation helped, but it did come down to replacing the struts.

2013FSport's advice seems on the money. Around here, I'd suspect a bent rim from striking a pot hole, our roads were a minefield from all of the freeze/thaw cycles this winter.

A round, concentric, balanced and trued tire/wheel assembly doesn't need a damping device to keep it from shaking the vehicle. Does it help, yes. In the end, the shocks are just minimizing (hiding) and existing problem if you have a vibration at road speed.
It's like spinning a top. It spins harmlessly not jumping about if in balance. The dampers are on vehicle are there for ride quality tho they can mask problems....

Is the vibration in the steering wheel, in the pedals, or in the seat of your pants?
I assume in the steering wheel, which I would first look at your tires and wheels. When I had a HWY-speed vibration in my steering wheel, it was a very slightly bent factory wheel. Replaced it with a good, used wheel, and all was back to normal.
