If it has the same spacing as the 2IS. I would recommend the socket, and ratchet method. Lift the car on the driver side, or put it up on ramps.

Once you break it loose then proceed to drain, and fill instructions.

I tried an offset box end, too. It's impossible.

Might be easier if I wasn't on my back in tight quarters.

Did you try the socket and extension method? See pics I posted a couple of post up. You'll have to put the socket on first then add the extensions. Depending on how many you need. I find it the easiest method once you've done it before. It should be the same for 3IS. From under the car guide it right behind the steering knuckle on the steering rack.

I was able to get the socket and 1/4" extension onto the fill plug on my 2011 IS 350 AWD -- but I wasn't able to break the plug loose. I had a 3/8" ratchet on an adapter onto the 1/4" extensions, and was cranking on the ratchet *hard*. I had around 1/3 rotation of flex in the adapters and that fill plug was not moving.

This is going to be one for the dealer.... At least once they've broken it free, it should be easier to do in the future.

I would suggest you use a cheater bar, or pipe to fit over your ratchet. At the same time while turning. Put your palm on ratchet head pushing towards the bolt head to ensure it's seated properly. Then try cranking with longer leverage. I'd also say wear some gloves. If the extensions give. Your are going to have bruised hands. Good luck.

It will budge eventually.

I can invisioin a drive extensions snapping off at the head.

From my transmission days 1/2" to 3/8" long extensions are mandatory. However they twist up a good amount under heavy load like this application being so far away.
Even then, sometimes you need full on 1/2" extension all the way and the long ratchet/breaker that goes with them.

Default IS250 Same?

Hey Everyone!

Thank you for having me! I have a 2009 IS250 AWD. I am comfortable doing almost all of the work. Plus I have access to rental lifts in Chicago!

She Whines Like a Banshee.

It is embarrassing to have a car that sounds like the brakes are shot.

They are fine. I was looking for something rubbing.

I suspected the brake rotor backing plate. NO

Warped ROTOR No.

I have pinpointed noise on my Front Dif on my car.

I sprayed some Teflon on her and she quieted down.

Sounds to me like she needs new bearings on the externals.

Has anyone else experienced this type of repair?

Looking for direction and experience!

Thank you all!

Use a hollow tube to your ear and listen to the alternator. A failing alternator will whine like a banshee.

i.e a couple of paper towel tubes taped together makes a usable noise identifier.
