Default Disable AUTO light on Rear view mirror?

Hi

As the title suggests, does anyone know how to disable the AUTO light popping on each time on my rear view mirror? I have no need for such functions and i'd really like it to stay OFF.

Thanks.

You want to disable the auto dimming feature, or the LED ambient light on at night?

Isnt the AUTO function related to the automatic garage door opener? I'd just like to disable it since I don't park my car in my garage.

Are you taking about the green light on the mirror itself? That's the dimming feature enabled. You should just be able to push the button to turn it off.

AUTO function on the mirror is for the auto-dimming function for the rear view mirror. If you programmed the garage door opener to your buttons and want it disabled you can just reset/delete all codes using the buttons... I think it was something like holding the first and third one for 5 seconds

Oh - Looks like I had it mixed up from the get go. So its the auto dimming feature? I honestly don't notice anything different when Its on or off, however when I power it OFF, it only stays off until the car is turned off. Once turned back on, it just enables over and over. Any way to permanently disable?

You could open the mirror up and cut the power to the part that powers the dimming. Or you can look for the sensor in front of the mirror that detects light and cover that with tape.

Covering the sensor makes it darken. That sounds like the opposite of what OP wants.

If the garage door buttons are not being used and you have no compass in the mirror, perhaps just unplug it at the mirror.

Well, the mirror darkens when a light shines on it; if you cover the sensor up so the mirror doesn’t know a light is shining on it, it won’t darken. I haven’t tried that, but I think that makes sense, no?

Negative capt. You're over thinking it. Dark is dark. If you block the sensor there is no light. To prevent lights from the rear shining in your eyes it will darken when the front sensor gets no light.
At dusk cover the sensor w your hand for a couple minutes. You'll see it darken if it works!

I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you disputing that the mirror darkens when light shines on it?

There are two light sensors, one facing the windshield, and the other facing the rear of the vehicle. The mirror darkens when the one facing the rear of the vehicle sees light, but the one facing the windshield doesn't. The confusion is that nosurprise is talking about covering the sensor that points towards the rear of the vehicle, while 2013FSport is talking about covering the one facing the windshield.

oh; there is no reason to cover the sensor facing the windshield. Cover the sensor that detects when a light from the rear shines on it.

This thread, IMHO, is one of the silliest threads I have ever read A non-issue if I ever saw one. It's a little tiny green light, not intrusive at all. And, it's there for a darn good reason
