Default replace is250 spark plugs....manifold removal mandatory?

Hey guys
Im about to do spark plugs on a 2009 is250awd. Is it mandatory to remove intake manifold?? Please only reply regarding the 250 as the 350 engine is different.

If you wanna change all six plugs then yes. Bank 1 can be done without removing manifold but to do bank 2 it gotta come off,

Lots to remove but gaskets should be reuseable as they are the silicon type. The copper crush washer should be renewed on the fuel connection technically!.

Thanks for the reply guys

Any one have p/n for the gaskets that are affected during re/re of manifold? I'd like to replace these and not have to worry

It’s seem like alot of work for just spark lugs change lucky me have an IS350, my got change like about 1hour, this IS350 engine is much easier to work than 250 for some reason good luck with yor work

Yes it is mandatory. I just recently replaced mine about 2 - 3 weeks ago (days before labor day) & it was a pain! I had the allen bolt in the center of manifold strip & the upper middle allen bolt was seized ! (Don't think anyone replaced the originals..) So prepare for the worst! & make sure to get a hex key or something to make it easier ! Don't forget to change the gaskets on manifold!

maybe you should order some replacement bolts just in case? they're like $2 - 3 from dealership.

They're different engines, but they share a very similar physical configuration. The surge tank is in the same position on the 2GR and 4GR; both engines would have to have their surge tank removed to access the left side spark plugs.

I've done this myself. If you're patient and meticulous, it's really not a big deal.

The tank does not need to be removed on the 2GR, the plugs can be removed without it.

Whoops! My mistake, then. I've seen pictures of the 2GR without the engine cover, and it seemed like the surge tanks were a very similar shape, but I guess appearances can be deceiving.

I’ve just did spark plugs in my is250 and replaced manifold and throttle body gasket. Car runs pretty smooth and has good power and no engine codes (been driving several days so far) but I swear it sounds like a slight hissing sound towards back of drivers side intake. I’m debating on pulling manifold again and reinspecting gaskets and hoses. From my understanding these are reusable although i still don’t like the idea of it but don’t wanna replace again after only 2 days. From my understanding the torque specs are 20 ft lbs on intake but is there a specific sequence to tighten them? I just alternate them front to back when installing. Just afraid something isn’t quite right near the back of the intake.

The torque specs are for bolts 12 ft lbs, and 13 ft pounds for nuts if I'm not mistaken. If you haven't had a check engine light on you should be ok. I've removed the manifold countless times. I can sometimes hear a faint hissing coming through the firewall. It's mostly audible from passenger side throttle body. I'm thinking since it's ABS plastic it's more acoustic. Especially if you have the engine cover off.

When in doubt invest in a live data scan tool.

I’ve got an older scan tool I’ve been keeping in the trunk just in case the light came on. I may hook it up after work today to see if it’s got any thing pending. And yes that’s exactly what it is a faint hissing.

Well got bored on lunch break so I scanned it lol. I don’t see any pending codes either. Best I can tell everything on live data looks fine. No numbers look erattic or anything, although I’m not 100% certain which parameters would be off the most with a leak.
