Default Changing water pump. Silicone sealant on gasket?

Hi Everyone,

I've read a bunch of the DIY water pump threads but there's no mention of silicone sealant on the gasket. Is it necessary? I'll be using an OEM water pump for replacement. Thanks in advance!

No. Only thing you need is some Loctite 242 (Blue) to apply to the threads of the screws when installing the new one.

IS250 but applies for us 350 owners. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...the-is250.html

Silicon is not a good option as it won't seal well.
Toyota gaskets are good its the others you have to look out for. If untreated paper/cork materials are used they will seep and fail.

Your only defense is products like Spray On/Brush on Copper Coat. Look it up....
