Default Good Michelin Tire Set for IS350

Good Michelin Tire Set for IS350

Have Goodyears on my IS350. The Rear wears out quick. I have come across a Michelin that offers 45,000 mile rating. Unheard of on the rears for the 350's.

What do you guys recommend? Costco is having a Michelin sale in October. Or otherwise I am open to other brands, as long as the investment is reasonable. My fronts that can do 10K, but the rears they are about done.

Thanks.

Pilot Sport A/S3+'s? Front's will last you easily 45k, rears not so much (but of course, that's subjective to how you drive). I'm still on my original fronts for about 40k now, and I just bought new rears around 27-30k back in May.

I'm doing well with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. So far have about 20k on them still looking good.

Pilot Sport A/S3+'s, is what I am looking at. Both are rated 45,000 miles. So if the rears die young, Costco will give you a rebate for the remaining miles. Did you get the warranty rebate when you bought the replacement tires? If this is the case, it makes sense to get the tires from Costco.

I am a Bridgestone tire guy, the fleet has them, except the IS (have Goodyear on them). Should I wait for the next month to avail of the next sale? Or just do Michelin? Michelins are more expensive than Bridgestones.

The last set of Michelin tires that I had on my IS250 started to cracked and chunks of the tread where coming off. I tried to make a warranty claim but given that the belt was not showing I was told they were fine. They had a 45K mile warranty and this started happening just before 30k. They looked like crap and after much complaining, the tire store gave me a decent discount on a set of Yokohama's.. I only had the Michelins up front to test them out as they were really expensive... They were $550 for the 2 tires. I would recommend staying away from Michelins.

I'm on my second year running Michelin pilot super sports on the rear and it looks cool like I still have plenty of life left. Overall I'm happy with them.

I'm on my 3rd set of Michelin A/S 3+'s and have mixed feelings on them. I don't think they are worth the extra money.

Pros
1) Great grip in the dry and outstanding in the wet
2) Tires are great at the limits and really don't squeal when they break loose
3) Ride is excellent.
4) Good grip in cold weather, I'm talking 0-32*F

Cons
1) Wear out really fast for a 45k tire. 2 sets of rears and both only made it 11k miles. Michelin prorated both and got 2 new ones for $200. I really don't drive the car that hard.
2) Noisy once you reach 1/2 tread life. Like BFG Mud Terrains on a jeep noisy.
3) Tread wear is not a 45k mile tire. I just recently switched my LCS bushing to the figs so I will see if the fronts wear normal now.
4) Grooved roads makes the car tram line all over the place and never had the issue with my Toyo Proxes 4 plus tires.
5) Terrible in the snow. I live in PA and 1" of snow with your RWD IS and you maybe parking the car until the plows come out.

Thanks for all your comments, appreciate them. Tire Rack evaluated 4 All Season (AS) tires and these 2 came out on top. Michelin A/S 3+and Bridgestone RE9800AS. Pretty even on the review.

I am partial to Bridgestone, the IS is the only car that does not ride on it. Costco has a Michelin sale ($130 off set of 4). This price after discount is still $50 higher than the Bridgestone RE980AS (without a sale).

Option 1 Go for the A/S 3+ now
Option 2 Go for the RE980AS now
Option 3 Wait for the RE980AS when it goes on sale perhaps next month

I think I can wait a little while, as long as I do not use the IS when it is raining…

Comments – suggestions….thanks in advance.

Would Costco still give the rebate though? Michelin halves the warranty on the rear tires due to their staggered fitment (unless you're going to be running a square fitment). IIRC, Michelin and Continental do this, not sure about the others warranties though.

Costco is no different. Michelin mileage warranty is halved due to stagger setup.

Leaning towards the Bridgestones now. I have a few weeks to decide. Thanks and keep the comments coming.

Feels smooth, though slightly noisy. Nothing unbearable at this point.

One strange thing I noticed is this feeling of rotation when rounding corners, which I didn't feel with my previous tires. I'm still trying to figure out why it feels like this even when the tires aren't breaking traction. I probably sound crazy
Check the tire pressure to make sure it has correct psi. If correct, then you may be feeling the difference in sidewall stiffness. Stiffer the sidewall, better handling and feel but rougher ride (in your case, Michelin may has softer sidewall than your previous tire?) I’ve been using Michelin Pilot Sports A/S 3+ for past 3 sets (over 100k miles) and I found them to be the best balance of tread wear, performance, and cost. I have not experienced any rotation you describe.

Loving the BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S on RWD 350.
They hang on for dear life in the corners, very predictable at all speeds, 15k on them now and look like new front and rear. They also have 45k warranty.
Car has IS-F LCA bushings.
