Airbag light on code B1650
Hello,
The car is throwing an airbag light and I got it diagnosed at the dealership. Anyone experience this before? How DIY-able is this or should I just bring it to a shop? Does the entire seat cushion need replacement or just a sensor within it?
Thanks,
Daniel

Has the vehicle ever been in a collision or suffered from water intrusion?
I'm not familiar with the particular components of the occupant detection system on the IS but if it's like most Toyota products it is done via a pair of sensors that are installed between the seat cushion and the seat tracks. These sensors measure the weight of the passenger and send this information to an ECU that is also under the seat cushion. This ECU sends the data to the airbag ECU.
There are a lot of places where this system can fail. I've never had to replace the sensors but I've replaced ECUs that were submerged (flood cars).
The more common cause for this type of failure is rodent damage to the harness.
Good luck.

Hi Leoferus,
The vehicle had a $1,500 claim on it but the CarProof doesn't show what repairs were done. It may have been in a slight accident. No water intrusion from what I can tell but I guess first steps would be to trace the wires to see if there's any loose connections or rodent damage in the wiring. Thanks for the information! Would you happen to have a diagram showing the location of the ECU and weight sensors on a Toyota?

I think everyone who gets this code should read this article. My code came up after it was scanned.
