Default Which Battery To Get?

The battery on my car is getting weak will need replacement soon. Curious to know what battery other CL members use. Im interested in a lighter weight battery.

Just grab whatever has the highest CCA rating/warranty length. If you want to pay a bit more for something lighter, an AGM battery.

I second Kirkland. In my neck of the woods Costco sells an Interstate that is specially made for them. It is an excellent value with a lot of power and the warranty is outstanding....

If you don't have a membership, find someone who does and go with them to buy it.

Kirkland a big from me! Costco doesn't carry the correct size, a Group 24. They have to cobble up their battery to make it fit. I recommend the Bosch AGM Group 24 from Pep Boys.

Thanks for the replies!

I ended up getting a Duralast battery through the auto dealer Im at. OTD with install $106. New battery lighter than the bulky Bosch AGM that came out. Engine cranks over way better now!

I bought the Bosch AGM also a last year. It's been awesome! 3yr warranty plus 2yr free jump start of needed. (I haven't even been close to needing it.)

Last year I replaced my battery and got one at Costco. All the batteries they had were branded Interstate, the Kirkland label had been dropped.

The battery type for our cars is group 24, specifically 24SC. Costco did not have a 24SC. A plain vanilla type 24 has small handles molded into the case and keeps you from putting the sleeve on the battery, otherwise it is the same exact size. Fortunately I have this highly sophisticated tool called a saw and cut those handles off. Problem solved.

^^^^I have had zero issues installing Group 24 batteries in my "F" over the years. No sophisticated saw needed.

When I last checked, Costco did not carry a Group 24 battery. Looking at their website, it's impossible to see if they do now.

I have never heard of a Group 24SC. The only other reference I could find, using Google, was another post from you a year ago

Checking their website, it forwards you to Interstate's website for Costco. The battery that pulls up for my 350 is listed as a group size 24, but fitment code 22 (whatever that means) (link). The sizes it shows are pretty much in line with a 24 battery. Interstate's MTP 24 (50 more CCA's and 65 more CA's) is a tad bit bigger, but pretty much the same when comparing it to the Costco battery. Warranty is 36 months on the Costco vs 30 months on the MTP. Price is also $95 vs a "suggested" MSRP of $139.

My Lexus battery is going on 3 years, and had a bit of trouble last winter in Chicago with its low 550 CCA's, also starting to leak a bit from the vent caps. I'll probably just grab the Costco version as 50 more CCA's and 65 more CA's + $41 - 6 months warranty doesn't seem worth the price for the MTP.

Not sure what the letters after the group number mean. Perhaps the manufacturer has some leeway in how they make the battery and can add letters to the size designation. Autozone uses the designation of 24DL on their battery. 24DL and 24SC are not listed in the Battery Council International information, only 24F, H, R and T.

O'Riley's battery EXTREME just crapped out this morning. It was purchased 11/15/2015. Luckily for me the previous owner of my car was my boss. So I just used his warranty at O'Riley's to get a free replacement. If it fails again within 3 years. I'll definitely look into other brands. Mostly I've used the Duralast Golds in other vehicles I've owned. Never had to return one while I still owned the car itself.
