Front hood latch sensor (says hood is open)
Has anyone had issues with their front hood latch? Specifically, the dash keeps saying that the front hood is open, even though the hood is very solidly closed. Obviously there's an issue with the front hood sensor and/or latch. Periodically it causes the car alarm to go off when the car's parked, presumably because the sensor faults and makes it seem like someone's trying to open the hood.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, or does anyone have any recommendations for how to cheaply fix (or at least make it go away)? Frankly I'd rather just disable the sensor entirely if there's a quick and easy way to do that (I wish it was as easy as pulling a fuse but I think it's shared). I'm assuming having Lexus actually repair it will be extremely expensive.

The latch should be a plunger type mechanical switch. Just like the plunger on the ebrake, and stop light switch.
I haven't really paid attention to the latch system on the front end. Can you verify there is wiring to the latch mechanism?
Maybe the plunger is not making contact anymore completing the circuit.
