I got home the other day with my moonroof on tilt and it would not close or move with the dial, Moving the dial onto any setting would do nothing, I got it to close by holding the button in.
If I hold it in for 30 seconds, it will open and close but none of the settings work anymore, I'm afraid it will get stuck open so I stopped using it but I normally use it everyday so I would like to get it fixed

Any pointers in what it could be would be appreciated.

You'll probably have to get a new assembly. If you you have to hold it to work. I replaced mine before for my 2010 it's a different setup than yours. My glasses door was broken when I bought the car. Are you certain the moon roof motor is not going out?

Sounds like your motor. Try cleaning it and see if that helps. The video isn't of your car but it's similar (I removed and cleaned the motor on my GS400 the same way).
