Default 2012 IS250 headlights HID or Halogen?

Hello all,

My wife has a 2012 IS250 and the passenger side low beam is fading to yellow and I believe needs to be replaced. Is there a way to find out if the light is the HID D4S or the halogen H11 without popping the hood? Thanks for the help.

Thanks lady2is. I have read the 2012 model can have either HID or halogen though. I was hoping for a way to know this without popping the hood.

Im sure its HID as well but if you want to make sure you can use your vin to find the specifications of your vehicle. Should be under port or factory installed equipment:

I could be wrong, but I believe that HIDs take time to warm up as compared to halogens which get bright instantly.

also, believe oem fog lights are halogen, so if low beam are halogens too they should be the same color. If they're HID, then low beam should be a lot brighter than your fog lights

Another way you can check is that most vehicles have the type of bulb the light is using written or etched somewhere on the front of the headlight lens itself - typically down near the bottom.

Looks like HID; but you need to turn off you headlights and take a picture during the day; it's easier to tell.

Looks like the D4S bulb is dead.
Mine crapped at the 5 year 50k mi mark.

Its pretty easy to replace them. Right side, remove the air box. Left side remove the bolt to the washer fill neck.

Do NOT touch the bulb or it will be destroyed when powered up.
