Default Help -pistons failing issue

07 with 106k awhile back I had made a post stating my check vsc light was on and several codes relating to misfiring in the cylinders. Took it again today after to solution and was told it is failing pistons that aren’t holding compression. It makes no sense to me to rebuild an engine on such an old car being it’s more sensible to put that money in something newer. What are my options and best course of action ? Would I still somehow be able to get coverage for repairs from Lexus via the carbon buildup recall. Any advice is much appreciated . Thanks

Did you have the piston job done? If not, I would expect the dealer to say no considering you're past the 9 years I believe. Now if you had the job done and the pistons have failed, they may look into doing something about it. If you like the car, and don't want to drop $2-500 a month on a new car, you just assume find a junkyard replacement for $1-2k.

Default piston going bad or stuck valve

Okay, I don't know much about the 2is but I have read extensively about the valves coking due to the absence of injectors to wash them like the 3is has. A stuck valve will cause a loss of compression reading that may look like a bad piston. Just guessing here, but if your valves are coked up enough to stick it may mimic a bad piston in the eyes of a mechanic that is not well versed in the art of compression testing. I cannot bring you up to speed in this forum, but there are numerous articles on the web about how to do a proper compression test. I humbly suggest reading them, or, going to a mechanic that can walk you through the process that he/she will do to rule out valves as a cause for low compression. This is a call for a second opinion if I ever heard one.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

It's not a 2IS vs 3IS thing, it's IS250 vs IS350. The IS350 (all years) has both port and direct injection, the 250 is direct injection only.

Bichon- Thank you for clarifying my post. I did mean IS250 vs IS350 but did not use the correct terminology. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and to clear up any confusion.
