Just curious, for those who live in cold weather states, where does your temp gauge usually sit while doing highway driving? I’m driving up north from warm Louisiana and I noticed my temp gauge is a bit lower than I usually see it. I know the cold weather can drop the temp though, figure I’d ask just in case I need to plan a thermostat replacement in the near future.

It's certainly not cold cold here but what I will share is that with temps under 38°F these take an honest 10 to 12min to ever get to normal (just below halfway mark) at light throttle settings during which time the idle is up over 1000 RPM and somewhat of a PITA to drive as it want's to run everything over.

That said last year driving in mid teens after 15min it would stabilize at it's normal spot and stay there the remainder of the trip.

Yours sounds odd. You did check the fluid level in the block when cold yes?

 

Parallax is skewing the needle position. If the lens were over the temp gauge it would likely look more like yours.
If one were to think in terms of a clock with 6 being straight down, it's never straight down. Almost always 6:30, close to 7'ish.

Can you get an OBD actual reading?

 

 

For me it stays right in the middle, pretty much always.

Mine is 2013.

FWIW - OBD sensor data will vary a good amount while the needle position basically tells the happy little Lexus owner everything is grand!
i.e. - actual coolant temps may be 175 to 220°F while needle stays south at the same happy spot NEVER moving!

It's been below zero (32 F) here in Ontario Canada for awhile and my temp gauge is always a little below half way once warmed up. I'd say its a smidge cooler than during the warmer weather but not much at all. Looks very similar to what yours is reading. Its just a pain how long it takes to warm up, feels like forever! My mums Focus takes a fraction of the time lol.

 

Just checked mine on a 250. It's in between the 11-12 small marks. The thermostat opens up at 205F then drops to about 185F onces the cooling fans kick on.

 

2013 sounds about the same.
Fans come on at 204°F
Needle is 7:30'ish when temps at 175.
Then by 182 it's 630'ish whereby it stays there even when at 220°F. So roughly 40° of deadband....

When does your drop off high idle. i.e. specific to low 30° ambient temps?

 

I am just curious does anyone else have an issue with the heater blowing hot air when it's cold??? My heat won't get hot but my seats work perfect. However when I stomp the pedal and go at higher speed it starts to blow warm.

 

First check your coolant level when car is cold. Make sure to top it off if it's low. Next would be maybe a stuck open thermostat. If your car takes forever to reach about the halfway mark on the instrument cluster. Do you notice any gas mileage suffering?

 

Adding to above - as in, when cold (off for 3 hours) remove the pressure cap and secondarily check the reservoir level.

If you do short drives of 4min or less that are mostly idling in traffic, it may not have time to warm up!!!! It will blow cold air!

What's the coolant level have to do with the heater heating properly?

 

If you were to start your IS250 and let it idle with you alls experience how long will it take for heat to get hot? Or will it ever get hot just sitting idling?
