So i changed the halogens to some silvania silverstar ultra bulbs as i replaced a blown oem bulb and afterwards they both work but dont appear to light up the road to the point of getting out to check they were even on. Any ideas on what could be going on as these bulbs allegedly provide more illumination as per the bulb manufacturer. The pattern on the road just doesnt appear to illuminate the road.

Make sure the bulb tabs are in the correct slots. If the bulb is in at a wierd location it may affect output. I've run into this issue installing aftermarket HID bulbs. Sometimes I have to double check they're in not cocked to one side. You may have to shine a flashlight to make sure the bulbs are locked in the correct position.
Last if all bulbs are secured correctly. Check the bulb adjustment on a wall, and adjust accordingly.

Can you post pictures? It might be one of those bulbs that blind everyone on the road but give no useable light in front of the car.
