Thanks for all of the information guys. Not sure if this makes my decision any clearer but good to know more detail.

The cause of the rattle on the 350 was different from the cause on the 250. The 350 was a recall. The 250 was a TSB that would be fixed under the terms of the original powertrain warranty but not thereafter. Cost is about $2500 to fix at the dealer but they say it's not doing any harm, just annoying.
