Stock Exhaust Drone?
Just purchased a 2011 is250 awd with 70k miles on it. At around 1100-3000 rpm there's a kind loud exhaust note coming from the rear of the car, in gear, not on idle or neutral rev. Jsut wondering if anyone has this with their car. You can mostly hear it than feel it if that makes sense

It's possible the previous owner had the mufflers deleted. You can crawl under the car or take it to any car / muffler shop and have someone look at the exhaust system to see if mid mufflers or rear resonators were cut off and straight pipes welded in place.

I knew the previous owner very well and they haven't had any exhaust work done.

I tired however it is not noticeable at idle, but in gear. I dont have another person to help me out so i might take it to a muffler shop. However i wanted to eliminate other possibilities first. If it was a Driveshaft/Reardiff/Transmission vibration it would be constant in gear and not dependent on the rpm correct? Beyond 3500 rpm it sounds normal

Thanks for the help guys. Although i wasn't able to see or hear any leaks, i did see a lot of black soot above the rear right muffler, on the heat shield. The left side is clean so i am going to say its a hole in the muffler. i went ahead and ordered the Bosal replacement as it was 65% of the cost from my local dealer. Hopefully they are good mufflers and will bring the noise back to stock.

Luckily there was a muffler shop one mile from my job. I let him install it, and he extended the stock exhaust to close the flange gap at the back end of it. They where pretty solid pieces as far as I remember.

Just wanted to update everyone. Got the bosal replacement, the piping wasn't short or mis-aligning with the flange, went together rather nicely. I ended up reusing the old flange gasket as the new one didnt come with one...no leaks yet, sounds just like oem.
