Default CV axle help

So I noticed a clicking noise which I put down to the CV axle... So we put the CV axle on and everything seem to go together nice... So I finish up and take the car on a drive as I had to be somewhere. As I got on the interstate I noticed a weird smelt which smelt like burning fluid so I stop at a gas station to get gas and noticed the whole underneath of the car was drenched in the diff fluid... No weird noises or anything like that just leaking fluid... So my question is... If the CV axle wasn't clicked all the way into place is it normal for alot of differential fluid to leak out of the CV axle hole... Possibly even leak dry... PS. When I noticed the fluid was everywhere I towed the car back to the house

Axle shaft seal was damaged, or improperly installed.

Yes, it can happen to not have the half-shaft fully seated against the rear carrier axle seal. Re-seat that shaft and then top-off the carrier fluid.

Default Still have a issue

So I managed to notice the CV axle wasn't in all the way so my friend come over and said he went to put it in and he felt the popping noise as if It seated all the way so I towed it to where I could pull the diff drain plug and fill plug which were rusty but managed to get them out... Filled it back up drove it for a few miles stopped at a gas station and noticed it was still leaking only a little this time tho. Where as before it was just running out , And all over the under carriage of my car..

Is it possible that I damaged the seal because I drove the car with out the axle in all the way or maybe damaged it putting the new shaft in. Ps it was very clear that the CV axle were factory

Yes, it could be possible.Just make sure the leak is coming from there BEFORE purchasing the seal and going through the half shaft uninstall and re-install.

Good luck!

Unless pressure washed clean. I'd imagine it would be dripping from the housing for a while. That said the unseated axle likely knocked the spring off the seal so it is less than effective.

Be sure to grease it and inspect the axles sealing area. This is the rear, yes?
