Default Door Sensor Over Triggering

I was rear ended in an accident a few years ago. Car was fixed but about a year ago my back passenger door sensor started going off while driving over bumps. I mentioned it to the dealership who stated it was probably residual from the accident and nothing could be done. Now this sensor is constantly triggering while driving causing my inside lights to flash and doors to lock/unlock. My car alarm also goes off constantly because the car thinks a door is being opened while locked. I'm at my end with this. The car only has $80k miles and is paid off so I don't want to get another car. Lexus states they can't deactivate my alarm due to "safety reasons" so that I at least can sleep. Anyone know of any possible ways to turn off that sensor?

I cannot believe the dealership cannot fix this. Maybe the body shop that fixed your car, or an independent mechanic?

Is the cluster/car thinking that the door is opening? Sounds like the door sensor is either faulty OR that due to the accident, something got tweaked so that the door panel area that the door sensor touches is now slightly further away now. Easy fix, put 3M double-sided foam tape on the very spot on the door panel where it meets the door sensor. If needed, double or triple up the thickest of the foam tape to keep the sensor from tripping when it shouldn't.

Report back and let us know what you find out.

I honestly think I got a lazy service person that day. He seemed very stand off-ish. He's also no longer there so I'm guessing he left or was let go. I've been calling but no luck yet. I'll keep trying though.

Yes. The car thinks the door is opening even when its not and clearly closed. I'm thinking the door panel was tweaked in the accident. I was rear ended pretty badly and the entire rear end had to be replaced. Could you perhaps tell me where the door meets the senor or how to find it? I'll gladly give this a try and fix this myself but I'll need direction.

Default Its Fixed

Foam tape trick mentioned above worked. I can't believe it was something so simple. Thanks everyone for the responses and help!

I believe the door trigger can actually be lengthened or shortened by spinning if you peel off the rubber boot, but the tape trick works too.
this is similar to the footing on a table to keep it from rocking, but I could be wrong.

One could also adjust the door fitment by moving the striker inward just slightly.
In short, if the door rattles on the stops and striker AND is not flush with the rear quarter panel, adjust the striker inward so the panels fit properly.

Having many years in the body repair industry, I'm pretty **** about uneven gaps, poor alignment, and panel to panel fitment etc...

Only problem with that is most people don't have the odd Torx bit that it'll take to do that. At least, I think it's a Torx.

True! And I've busted enough tips even using name brand tools meant for daily use.

They don't say Snap-On Fly-Off for nothing!
