Hey y’all,

I have a 2008 IS350 that has one headlight missing pieces of it’s plastic housing and with that, water has gotten in, and killed the headlight.

The car is equipped with the HIDs from factory as far as I understand, which has thrown me for a loop because it’s extremely expensive to replace the whole housing at the dealership. Ideally, I’d like to switch to aftermarket headlight, like ones with the L shaped LED headlights. However, I haven’t found a definite answer on whether or not it’s possible.

Can I replace them with aftermarket ones? Is it possible to do in my home garage? Which ones will work? How do I replace them?

Depends on the headlight, some of them are halogen models only though usually the listing will state what they will fit.

If your headlight wasn't cracked, a replacement ballast from Amazon is about ~$50. I imagine you can find a relatively cheap, used HID headlight, think I paid about $200 for one when I had someone back into one of mine.

i have VLAND headlights and i love them. they are like around $550 for the pair. they work with both HID and halogen. they are full LED, LED swoosh DRL, and a sequential turn signal. but they are on kind of on the expensive side though. a lot of people in the 2IS community on instagram have them. they look really nice.

There are many options these days.

I had lens cracks and yellowing on my 08 before i upgraded.

For these solutions, you will need to pull the AFS fuse to get rid of the AFS light. You probably won't miss the AFS swivel and autolevel anyway.

I can’t find any headlights online that aren’t only compatible with the Halogen option. Do you know of any that are? Minus the VLAND ones, they aren’t my taste.

How much DIY tinkering are you willing to do?

Checkout my headlight build thread and videos. I used to have 08 HID and went with 2011 style with DRL. I converted those $400 halogens DRL versions.

If you want more of a plug and play, try the 2011 HID versions in aftermarket for $1000, you have to transplant your HID bulbs and ballast from your 2008 over: https://ebay.to/36umDmI
