Post OBD Apps | Torque Pro & OBD Fusion with PID pack

Let's talk about data collection from Torque Pro and OBD Fusion. Considering 99% of us have smart phones, these apps make great tools for viewing what your vehicle is doing behind the scene. Specifically I would like posts regarding what does and does not work. An example is the Fusion App when coupled with the Toyota / Lexus / Scion PID add on pack, shows options to view over 326 different engine parameters on the 2GR-FSE. Although many of them work, not all of them do and we don't have enough input to know the cause.

We can also access transmission data and see the oil temperature. This is priceless tool if you intend to DIY transmission Drain and Fill. You'll notice it only takes about 10 minutes of engine run time to exceed the target temperature.

Please list functions that work and what your setup is as well and parameters that do not work as expected. Some of us have different results and we need input to see if it is because of our car model and year or the tools we are using. Here are some examples of PID parameters that work. Like the KCLV used to establish ignition advance works on the my IS-350 but a member with an IS-250 receives bogus data.

Here are some of the sensors. Specifically the transmission oil temperature. Very useful when doing a fluid change.

Here we have Engine Camshaft Position data listed, but it does not work and it does not complain about the version of my Elm327 adapter while other modules that are accessible, pop up an error stating "must have adapter version 2.1 or higher to access this module".

What we don't know is if these faults are specific to our setup (Elm 327 Bluetooth adapter, the car or the PID utility.
These are cheap powerful diagnostic tool that can help you solve problems.
Post away....

Yep - I use this:

Amazon Amazon

Along with my Galaxy S9 mounted on a cup holder mount in my LC. My six gauges are speedometer, Tachometer, KCLV, KFV, Coolant Temp, and Voltage.

It's nice that it also works as an OBD scanner for viewing and canceling codes With the OBD LInk device the app is free, though the PIDs are not, but certainly reasonably priced.

Whaaaaaa?? ^^^ LC has codes??? haha! Hope not!

IIRC there were some mixed reviews on the OBD Link adapters. Rather Spendy as I recall. But another app to add to the list.

Speaking of: Please List all adapters Bluetooth and WiFi that connect and work.

I can't help much as mine is Fleabay knock off Elm327 Bluethooth from about 10 years ago. No clue who actually made it. Its one of those translucent blue ones with red black silver label. It does not show what version is it. But ot works with Torque and Fusion. FWIW: Fusion reports it is not V2.1 compliant.

After emailing, and sending debug files from my cheap Ebay OBD adapters. Fusion came to the conclusion that they are not equipped to read the necessary Enhanced PIDS.

They recommend me try one of the know compatible adapters here: https://www.obdsoftware.net/scantools

My adapters themselves are as follows.

Bluetooth basic blue dongle V2.1
Bluetooth basic black, and orange sticker housing V4.0
Last the WIFI basic black, and orange sticker housing.

With these 3 I wasn't able to read the KCLV, or KFBV.

Can't Read KCLV, or KFBV

Can't Read KCLV, or KFBV

Can't Read KCLV, or KFBV

They recommend me to get a known compatible device to read the enhanced PIDs.

I just placed an order from VeePeak for the BLE adapter. Hopefully it will read the knock values correctly once I get it.

Hopefully the VeePeak will work for you. I've been using the Viecar 2.0 OBD2 adapter for the past two years and it's had no issues with reading the KCLV and KFV PIDs. I can't comment if the data refresh rate could be better or would be the same using a different adapter or with Bluetooth 4.0 support.

And as stated above my OBDLink device also has no trouble reading KCLV and KVF as well as any other PIDS.

Mike's IS-250 info is here....
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...rn-values.html

Reports this;

Ever seen anything like that?

My guess is it is not the adapter. Usually it just doesn't work at all. We need other 250 owners to chime in....

It has to be the adapters. While using the V4.0 I was able to get the correct readings for a few seconds. That being said I had trouble with it connecting properly it would crash while scanning for supported PIDs.

The Ver2.1, and WIFI adapters work for the exception of reading knock. All other basic PIDs work well fuel trims, temps. I've compared them to my cable scan tool and they are dead on.

^^ OK, I was unaware that any of your adapters ever reported anything usable. Good to know.

Can someone with V2.1 load a gauge with any of the VVT cam angle data?

Thanks in advance!

2013Fsport,

If you can add this link to your first post. I think it would benefit the IS250 owners as well. I've contacted a few members, and they are still in the dark about benefits of KCLV, and KFBV.

Guys,
Both are good links and I'll bump them. Thanks...
That said, the primary goal is how to collect data and what hardware and PIDs work and which don't so people don't waste their time and money... still, post away!

Update:

Received the VEEPEAK BLE. I can view my KCLV, KFBV correctly now. I reset the ECU running SHELL Premium 93. It may, or may not climb any higher. Hopefully shooting for 25.2

^^^^I run KCLV with one decimal point. It's pretty accurate Same with the speedometer.
