2007 IS350 150000 hard to start but starts
My car has recently had trouble starting. It will start but if it sits for too long it will just sit there and try and try even when I take my finger off the starter. Then, the second time I try it usually starts just fine. I'm not sure what this would be. I've read a few places that it could be the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Sounds legit. It's definitely not the alternator, battery or spark plugs. All have been replaced in the last 6 months. I'm a do it yourselfer so am hoping this is an easy fix, once I figure out what the issue is.

^^ I think you nailed it right there. Start with the fuel pump strainer and likely pump too. The strainer gets plugged and the engine starves.
The Torque and OBD Fusion apps allow you to see the high pressure fuel pump psi, but you need to know the low pressure pump too. Still, it may be helpful to compare HPFP data with others.
Does it matter if the engine and ambient temperature are cold vs hot or vice versa?

The temperature doesn't seem to matter. I'll make a mental note to see if it does. Where/how do I get or setup the Torque and OBD Fusion apps? I'll see if I can't check the fuel pump strainer on my own.
What about the ignition? I don't think it is because it doesn't have a problem trying to start and it almost seems like the first time I try to start it, it's getting "primed" and then the second time it starts right up.
If I can't get to the fuel pump on my own or strainer I'll likely have to take it to my mechanic.

Do a search on the Apps and strainer. There is plenty of info. I'm on mobile device or I would get you links. Strainer is under the backseat inside the fuel tank. You'll need replacement parts before going in.
In short sediment pumped into the tank is the root cause and not uncommon over 150k mi.
