I love the shape of the IS and was quite interested in the 250 until I heard about the lack of power and sludge issue and figure I will get a 350 since it seems to avoid these problems only being slightly more thirsty for gas.
I have found some old threads about purchasing but none like mine that is recent, so I was wondering the following:
Is a 2007 IS350 still reliable today?
Are there any common faults in a 2007 IS350, or things that I should look out for due to its age?
How good are the factory paint jobs, if I keep a 2007 waxed how long do you think I can expect the paint to resist fading?
How many kilometers (or miles) would be too much for an IS350 of 2007 at this present time?
Thank you very much, any replies would be much appreciated!
I have a low mileage 07. No issues what so ever but I do maintain her well. As did the previous owner. The paint is still shining as new. Look at the service history if possible. Here’s a pic of the ol girl.
The 2IS is top of the list for reliability. But like anything else things break, motors blow, transmission fail no matter how well maintained they are thing break. I own an 08 350 with 170k on the clock. Bought it at 126k. Paint still looks great. I just did paintless dent removal to get ride of the door dings. Interior still near perfect ( besides the dash )
I still look forward to driving everyday.
I to started looking at the 250, until I test drove a 350.
I have a 2010 IS350 Sport, I bought it in September with a little over 52K on it, only one owner. It's an awesome car! It gives you both worlds, performance and comfort. Yes the engine is a bit thirsty, but not much more than the 250. Very reliable cars, but from the 2006 thru 2010 models you have to make sure you don't get one with the "sticky dash" issue where the dash and door trips melt in the summer. The 2010 is still covered under warranty, I just had a new dash installed last week from the Lexus dealer, but if you buy a 2007, make sure that issue has been addressed or it will come out of your pocket. So far since buying mine, the only things I had to change were the tires and brakes.
Here is our '08 IS250 with 152k we purchased for our college student last year. We actually didn't want her to have the power of a 350 and the V6 works just fine. The carbon buildup is just that - it's something to think about but not a deal breaker. She has 170k on it now. So far the only things replaced were the fuel pump (went out the first week) and MAF sensor a couple months ago. We made sure the dash and door panels were replaced prior to purchase.
You don't have to worry about the paint fading. My '99 GS400 turned 20 years old last year and she is my daily driver. Looks like the day I purchased her.

Thanks for the reminder will definitely look into the service history. Yours looks so new!!

Definitely a big difference in the two! Does your dash happen to be affected by the sticky dash issue the other poster mentioned?

I can't get over how flawless your car looks. I will definitely ask about the dash, but I'm wondering if it would be much of a problem in NZ as it doesn't get too hot (usually no more than 20-25c). 5s is a lot faster than I expected out of a v6!

They really do hold up well! Thanks for settling my concern about that. I understand why you didn't want her driving a 350! lol.

very slight sticky by the windshield. That’s not the problem. Cracks. 2 by the center vents. No big deal. Looks like a factory 3 piece dash.lol, 2 over by the passenger air bag that stand out.
The dash is about $400 to buy. And half day labor if your mechanically inclined.
Im planning on getting a new dash in the spring.

Just out of curiosity, was it the high pressure fuel pump that sits on top of the motor that went out or the fuel pump in the gas tank? How did you know the MAF was bad? I'm sitting at 160k miles now and the high pressure fuel pump has always been a concern for me considering they are around $1k for the part itself.
If you can find this IS350 model in good condition, buy it. I consider it the best used car out there. I've had mine since brand new and I have spent zero dollar on repairs after 140k miles so far. I went synthetic since the 5k mile oil change. I bought the 75k service plan and it was well worth it. Mine is lowered on F-Sports springs, so it eats tires like crazy even I have alignment done regularly. I use a reputable shop for doing major maintenance instead of the dealer, and it's not expensive at all. My RCF is awesome fun to drive, but the 350 is much more practical. It's quick, handles well, has good visibility, good stereo, and roomy enough. If you're easy on the gas pedal, you can get over 25mpg, which I think pretty decent for a 300hp car.
If it doesn't get too hot than the dash should not be much of a concern. It's mostly a cosmetic issue. I would not have even bothered changing the dash if Lexus was not paying for it to be replaced
