No It was something I was worried about but the 3gr and 4gr blocks are near identical luckily no need to remove the front timing cover. I just took the awd oil pan engine mounts and dipstick plus the entire intake from the head up they all should swap over

Sorry about that I meant to update but so far the issue was due to wiring not being plugged in correctly I had a few different hands help with the swap and eventually I took it to a different shop in my area and the tech there was able to diagnose the no start as a wiring issue something ie. something not plugged in properly in the harness but after that the swap has been solid. Running the 3gr on the 4gr ecu for almost 6 months now with no issues , I used a 2wd and swapped all the awd stuff from my original engine/car. But one thing I didn't do was swap the lower intake that has a sensor the 3gr doesn't and that is causing a check engine light but it hasn't affected driveability I am planning on swapping the 4gr lower intake and adding a rr racing oil catch can because carbon buildup was the original reason my 2.5 died. But I hope that update helps ,
tldr: If you do the swap make sure you keep damn good track of the harness and where everything goes.

Nice! How's the power compared to the 4gr? Noticeable difference or you'd opt for 2gr/4gr hybrid instead?

It's not really that noticable , I would definitely say go for a 2gr swap if you have the resources but a dead nuts plug and play with the 3gr is just as easy as putting back in a 4gr so the extra .5 liter is a bonus in my mind, my reasoning was that i had a budget and this car is my daily. And since the swap I've put about 20k miles with no issues.

How much usually should this swap cost total?
A Jdm 3gr motor off eBay is around 1200 shipped.
How much did you guys (ones that did the swap) pay for labor if you didn’t do it yourselves.
So if I were to do is , would the usdm or Jdm be easiest? Which is most plug and play? I know after reading the intake pipe and maf needs to be modified, you would need to use the whole intake systems from the 4gr to avoid soldering.
The ecu from 4gr can handle the 3gr fine, and everything else in this swap is something I would want to do.
Most recently my is250 has come across issues as mentioned in another thread, and I’m thinking of doing this swap just to avoid the headache of trouble shooting the 4grfse.
My is250 is a 6 speed manual, so would be a waste getting rid of it.

I did the swap and I believe it's a perfect swap if you want to gain decent power.Mine is supercharged and all I can say is that the 4GR had power after 5000 RPM to 7000 and now the 3GR has at 3000 to 7000RPM.The ECU has no promblem handling the extra power(not in my case). It needs more gas for sure!
how much did it cost you? What supercharger kit did you get? Or did you custom source your own parts n build a custom sc system yourself for yourself?
edit: I saw your post now. So 500 euro back in 2020? Do you remember it being told it was harder or ran into unforeseen complications versus if you were hooking up a 4gr engine?
how much power does your car make with the 3gr engine + super charger? Is it reliable?

Well the car made 377BHP in a dynopack Dyno that’s 431HP.I haven’t got any issues ever since but I can’t say it’s reliable for sure.I guess time will shaw but I have made 10.000km so far with no promblems .I ve lowered the compression using 3GRFE pistons to be more safe.
The kit is custom made using a C38-81Rotrex.AEM water meth kit is also needed because the 2GR injectors are not enough either at higher RPMs.
Ifbyou are planing to do it I have a tuner to help you out because a good tune is defenatelly needed.
I hope I helped!

I'm trying to manual swap my crown athlete
Did you need any adapter plate made or did it just bolt on?
Thanks in advance

Specifically what transmission?
I've read the RA62? RA63?
I read the r154 could work from a supra with an adapter plate but the $6000 for a used one dosnt make sense.
I'm trying to manual swap my Toyota crown athlete which is 3gr-fse,
Cheers.

That's the point. By the book you will never find it as it didn't exist in any build. Look up the parts for US Is-250 manual vehicle. Figure out how to mount it in you car and have a custom drive shaft made.
Figure out what parts you need to install a clutch in car that never came with a third pedal. You will waste time and money on things that don't work. That is to be expected.
The real hard part is making the electronics happy so the system works right... If you have no ECU for a manual trans car, now you have a real problem to solve. Either fake all the inputs the auto trans would have produced (think nearly impossible) or make another ECU work on that engine and body...
Make sense?
