At 289k has the fuel pump ever been replaced?? Ours quit at 152k so if that is the original pump it's likely the cause. Btw, don't go to the dealer for it they will charge you an arm and a leg (upwards of $1,200). I picked a used one up on eBay out of a '07 for $100 and replaced it myself. It's relatively simple as it sits directly under the back seat.
Starter fluid is real good diagnostic tool. I'd start there.
Pull the accordion hose off at the air box spray a couple seconds and quickly assemble minus clamp. Try to start it and you'll have to crack the throttle a bit.

As others suggested, likely the tank fuel pump but that doesn't explain the smell...

ill try the starting fluid, so you are saying to stay it straight toward the throttle body? upstream from air filter?

I’ve had to really watch when I mess with it, the cold has made the sensors and plastics fragile

it’s finally warming up

ill try the starting fluid today

I also have the oil leak (timing cover I believe)

as for the fuel smell issue, what all could it possibly be? I haven’t changed injectors since I’ve owned it. Bought it with 170k now has right at 300k
